ANTHONY NANIA

Wine Ambassador & Expert Wine Consultant

Food and Wine Industry Expertise

Anthony has over 40 years’ experience in the travel, food, and wine industries and has reviewed many of the top wineries and restaurants in Australia, Italy, and France. He regularly attends the world’s largest wine shows, ProWein and VinItaly, as a specialist consultant and buyer on behalf of Australian distributors.

Wine makers frequently seek Anthony’s opinion about the prospects of their wines for international markets. This includes assessing the taste profile suitability of their various wines for the countries they intend to export to; assessing the presentation of the wines, and evaluating the quality of new vintages that have either been recently bottled or are still in barrels. His judgements have been confirmed by the stellar awards those wines have won at prestigious international wine events.

European and Australasian wines are Anthony’s special interest. He has extensive knowledge about the wines of Italy and France (the two biggest wine producers in the world) because of his Italian heritage and wonderful connections in both countries, and also German and Spanish wines, some of which he rates amongst the world’s best. Anthony also appreciates the excellent wines of Australia and New Zealand because he has had the pleasure of not only visiting many of the finest wineries in both countries and getting to know the best producers personally, but because he has watched their wine industries grow to become significant producers on the world stage.

Anthony was formerly a publisher and managing editor of magazines for the tourism, travel, and food and wine sectors, including Vive la Vie, Pacific Paradise, Welcome to Australia, and Where Melbourne.

Food and Wine Matching for Restaurants and Private Hosts

As a leading wine educator and food and wine-matching expert, Anthony has planned and hosted many food & wine matching events. He understands the difficult task that restaurateurs and private hosts face in order to serve perfectly matched food and wine, particularly if the menu includes Asian, Middle Eastern or Indian foods with their complex flavours and spices.

Restaurateurs and private hosts benefit from the expert advice that Anthony provides to help them understand the perfect wines to complement their menu, taking guests’ dining experiences to a whole new level.

As an example, for Melbourne’s famed Red Emperor Chinese Restaurant, Anthony matched 7 different rare vintage wines from Giaconda, one of Australia’s most famous boutique wineries, with 7 of their signature dishes. The result was a resounding success.

"Anthony's deep knowledge and passion for wine draws you in; his Masterclasses and advice on new additions to my cellar have been fantastic."
